One bridge, two halves

The Arkansas River cuts Bixby in two. The old town sits on the south bank, and newer neighborhoods fill the north. Downtown Tulsa to Bixby is 23 miles, a little under half an hour at an ordinary hour. Memorial Drive, which is US-64 through town, crosses the river on the only bridge running north and south into Bixby. About 30,000 cars a day pass the intersection just north of it. For an evening party south of the river, I leave early and plan on the backup.

Where the table goes

One-on-one sittings are held at a coworking space in Tulsa, so a Bixby client comes north for a private reading. A party is the reverse. The cloth, the deck, the lamp, and a small sign ride down Memorial with me, to a clubhouse on a pond, a barn on a ridge, or a lawn in the old town. There is no charge for crossing the river. Events start at $300 and cover two hours; after that it is $125 an hour.

The Garden Spot of Oklahoma

Bixby earned that name in 1941, when it had become a regional center for shipping produce by rail. Cotton and alfalfa gave way to cantaloupes, potatoes, and squash, and later to sod, mostly Bermuda grass. The town is named for Tams Bixby, who chaired the Dawes Commission. It still throws its biggest party for a vegetable: the Green Corn Festival hands out roasted corn on opening night.

    17400 E. 167th St. S., on 191 acres. Mountain Crest holds up to 330 at what the ranch calls the highest point in Tulsa County. Riverbend Chapel holds 130.

    Charley Young Event Park

    50 W. Dawes. The town has gathered here since 1908. There is an outdoor stage with its own lighting, an open lawn, and covered picnic areas, reserved through the city's special events coordinator.

    Bixby BBQ 'n Blues Festival

    The Rotary Club's three-day cook-off at Washington Irving Park, just north of the river on Memorial. Blues on Friday and Saturday, a carnival, and more than fifty retail vendors. 2026 ran May 14 to 16.

  • Late June

    Green Corn Festival

    The Optimist Club's 52nd year in 2026, and its first at Bentley Park after outgrowing downtown. Booths are about 11 by 11 feet, outdoors along the walking path, and the fair sells crafts as well as food.

  • Saturdays, July to early November

    Bixby Farmers Market

    Charley Young Event Park, 7 to 11 a.m., with farmers, artisans, and makers. The 2025 season ran from July 5 to November 1.

  • Does it cost more if the party is south of the river?

    No. North bank or south, Bixby is inside the metro, and the price is the same one I charge in Tulsa: $300 for up to two hours, then $125 for each hour after.

  • Can you read at a Dream Point Ranch wedding?

    Yes. The ranch requires its own vendors only for the bar, the catering, and the linens and dishes. Everything else is the couple's choice, so a reader needs no sign-off beyond yours. A table near the Mountain Crest doors keeps me out of the dance floor's way.

  • Have you read at Vinterra before?

    Not yet. I have no Bixby appearances so far, and I would rather say so than imply otherwise. At Vinterra, the Clubhouse suits a smaller party on its own, or a corner of the Grand Hall works for a reception. Outside, I need two chairs, a small table, and a lamp by the fire pits once the sun goes down. Tell me which space you booked.
